    THIS IS A PERMANENT POSITION.

    POSITION VACANT: Science Education Analyst (Program Director), AD-1701-4. Annual salary ranges from $85,210 to $132,791.

    PROMOTION POTENTIAL: Science Education Analyst (Program Director), AD-1701-4

    LOCATION: Directorate for Education and Human Resources, Division of Research, Evaluation and Communication, Arlington, VA.

    RELOCATION: Expenses will NOT be paid.

    BARGAINING UNIT STATUS: This position is included in the bargaining unit and will be filled in accordance with the merit staffing provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement Article VIII.

    THIS POSITION IS OUTSIDE THE COMPETITIVE CIVIL SERVICE

    Appointment to this position will be made under the Excepted Authority of the NSF Act. Candidates who do not have civil service status or reinstatement eligibility will not obtain civil service status if selected. Candidates currently in the competitive service will be required to waive competitive civil service rights if selected. Usual civil service benefits (retirement, health benefits, life insurance) are applicable for appointments of more than one year. Disabled veterans with 30% service-connected disabilities as well as other applicants with severe disabilities will be considered without regard to the closing date if applications are received prior to final selection.

    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: This position serves as Program Director for the existing and emerging research programs in the Division of Research, Evaluation and Communication (REC).

    • Guides the research program in building and overseeing a portfolio of awards with special emphasis and priority on the neuroscientific and cognitive foundations of learning Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines.
    • Designs and implements the proposal review process for the education research program by writing Requests for Proposals, identifying and selecting experts from a wide range of fields to serve on review panels, making recommendations for awards and declinations and conducting post award management activities.
    • nsures that the projects supported by the Division are methodologically rigorous and that the methodologies used are appropriate for the research questions.
    • Serves as principal liaison with other NSF programs and with other Federal and private funding agencies in the area of research on cognition and learning of STEM disciplines.
    • Analyzes the current portfolio of awards and makes recommendations on changes in emphasis or direction.
    • Prepares reports and presentations on original research and on synthesis of research supported by the Division and other related programs at NSF for journals, conferences and other dissemination vehicles.
    QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: For AD-4:

    Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Social Sciences, Psychology, or Education or equivalent experience in research, research administration, and/or managerial experience pertinent to the position. Experience in education cognitive research is highly desirable.
